This usually relates to Vertical Sliding sash window systems such as The Richmond window range. These windows were designed before air conditioning and were intended to create a flow of air (not a draught) into a room, allowing cooler air to enter a room through the lower sash while allowing warmer stale air to exit via the top sash. This circular air flow removes moisture laden, warm air from the room creating a healthier, more pleasant environment for working, living and sleeping in. The RichmondTM dual action sash window raises the lower sash and drops the top sash with one action - as the bottom sash is raised the top sash lowers by a corresponding amount, ensuring that the window operates at peak efficiency.

Yes, you can have your windows and doors in any shade of colour that you choose. If you provide a Pantone or RAL colour reference, Sashless will match that colour for you. Alternatively if you provide a paint manufacturers colour name (eg Farrow & Ball Elephants Breath) our paint manufacturer (Remmers) will colour match it for us 99% of the time. You can also have a different colour on the outside to the inside, or the window/door frame in one colour and the windows/doors in a different colour. It's your choice, and with timber windows and doors you can always change the colour at a later time.

Not necessarily. According to an independent study by the Heriott Watt Institute the whole life cost of timber windows makes them the lowest cost choice of window material (Wood Window Alliance standard). And while the initial cost of plastic windows may be cheaper than timber, installing plastic windows and doors can knock thousands of pounds off of the resale value of your property. There's a good reason why high end developers install timber windows and doors - they add value.
The timber used in the construction of windows and doors lock in carbon reducing global warming potential and FSC timber is a sustainable source of building materials.
Unlike plastic, timber windows don't co2t the Earth.

All of our timber is from sustainable sources and complies with the EUTR and Cities regulations, our preferred timber is a slow grown, engineered redwood timber with a high heartwood content from Northern Europe (Scandinavia and Baltic). We also offer selected FSC hardwoods such as Sapele, Red Grandis and Oak. Our doors may also use Birch. As part of our ecological commitment we try to encourage our customers to limit the use of hardwoods and where appropriate to use modified timbers, such as Accoya, in their place. Accoya carries a 50 year warranty against rot and is acetylated (modified) in the Netherlands.

For those in the construction industry, think GluLam timber. In a simplified version, the saw mill takes the locally grown Redwood, prepares it, cuts it into lengths, cuts it to the required thickness, removes all of the knots, sap pockets, shakes and imperfections, finger joints the lengths and cross laminates the lengths of timber to form useable, defect free timber, with grain that is non uniform giving increased strength and resistance to movement. Using high heartwood content gives a natural resistance to decay (rot). Engineered timber is the highest quality softwood timber and is ideal for windows and doors.
